It's gonna be a while...

Before I post again. We are switching innarweb providers and it may take a week or more.

That includes email, to a certain point. I'll have that in my "office" but will only be checking it once a day.

Peace out...

"No matter how hard you try..."

Everything here is hunky-dory. Sort of "all quiet on the Eastern front", so to speak.

Another good night of poker, although there were no straight flushes, oddly enough. It did come very close once (on the board even).

There really is nothing else to report today. Most days are like this now, no "excitement."

Remember when you were a kid...

And you had a favorite movie or TV show. And you watched it and watched it and then for whatever reason you never saw it again because either it never made it to VHS/DVD or the series was cancelled? But you remembered being completely into it and swore up and down that it was one of the greatest shows ever? Yeah...

Space:1999 was one of those shows for me. They finally release the entire series on DVD, I buy it before leaving for Iraq, watch the 1st season in Taji then start the 2nd season in Mosul. Yikes. How do you take a really good 1st season and completely hose it in the 2nd??? Geez!! It makes my head hurt.

Marion and Justin were the big winners tonight. Derrick got another straight flush!! I'm telling you... It has to be a record.

So, I picked up...

A movie out of the $5 bin at the PX today. It's one that Tab and I saw together right around the time we got married. We both loved it. I had forgotten just how great a film this is. It stars, The Dude (in his same Japanese baseball T-Shirt), Popeye (naked, I might add), Mrs. Baskin, Hunny-Bunny, "Q", Niles, Jerry "Hands" Espenson, Hellboy, Peggy Hill, Mr. Burns/Smithers/Ned Flanders/Rev. Lovejoy/Kent Brockman/Otto-Man/Scratchy and Mr. Noodles Brother and it's directed by Patsy.

An extra $10 to anyone who can name all the actors associated with those roles and the movie of which I speak (except you Justin because you already saw it tonight). The movie will make you laugh, make you angry and make you cry. I can't believe I had forgotten about it.

Poker went well tonight. "G" is back from leave and he and I split the chip count (so no Justin, I'm not washing my shirt). Hey, it worked with Biggio's helmet, right?

This has to be some kind of record...

Yet another straight flush tonight. 9-K of Diamonds for Justin. I tell ya, it has to be a record. This many SF's in one group of guys playing cards? It has to be.

Nothing else to report except that it was still hot today but right now it's actually nice outside. Of course it's 0156hrs but hey...

The Only Thing Worse Than a Monday...

Is a Monday in Mosul. Bored. Very bored. Nothing on TV, I've watched all my movies, the innarweb is crap (it took over an hour to get logged in to this blog), it's hot and there is NOTHING TO DO ON THIS PIECE OF ROCK we call FOB Marez. I can't even get online at my "office" because the innarweb at Regiment is jacked up as well.

All I can hope for is that T and Jacob don't sissy-out on me tonight and that we get to play some cards. We'll see...

90 days, 90 days, 90 days...

"Man it's hot. It's like, Africa hot. Tarzan couldn't take this kind of hot."

That one's too easy even to offer money for the right answer...

But, it is hot. "It's so damn hot out here, I saw one of those little guys in the orange robes burst into flames. It's that hot." Another easy one...

Got a haircut this morning and bought some "groceries." Went to lunch with Jacob, Gerrardo, T and the 1LT. Philly Cheese Steaks and fries. Came back here, took a shower and now I'm watching my Kung Fu Theater DVD's while I was waiting for this slow-@$$ internet to get logged in so I could write yall a note or two.

If this next provider doesn't work... Yall will probably by hearing about me on the news.

A Change of Pace

Tonight was a bit different; Dee, Marvin, Justin, Jim and I all played Monopoly. Things were looking all right for a while and then Dee started to "run the table." Needless to say... She won. D@mM!+. Next week we play Risk.

Other than that, today was a regular day; Hotter than the Inner Ring of the Seventh Circle of Hell (read Dante if you're confused).

So, that about sums up our Saturday here. Pretty standard stuff.

Addendum...

Holy Royal Flush, Batman. Not me, Marion. Marion's one of our Friday players. Between him being on leave and all of us being on leave we haven't seen him in about a month and a 1/2. So I run into him today and tell him to stop by, he does. Before the game I mention that he's our last holdout to get his name on the board with a straight flush. He says, "I'm just waiting for the Royal." Lo and behold about 45 minutes later with the A, Q of spades in his hand and a K, J of spades on the board... He rivers the 10 of spades. Very nice, we almost all had a coniption fit. Congrats, my friend.

Another Hot Friday

I just finished watching Speed Racer. One word. Wow. This was a really great movie (if you are a fan of the cartoon). It was perfect with the exception of the kid who played Spritle, he was horrible. Chim-chim acted better than he did. It was like watching an episode of the cartoon only with real people and CGI animation. The races were completely over-the-top, as they were in the series. A really great movie (again, with the exception of the kid who played Spritle).

It is miserably hot today. The "breeze", if you can call it that is probably in the neighborhood of 130 degrees. You can't stay out in it long because the metal on your glasses start to super-heat and you end up with first degree burns where they touch your face. Nice, huh?

Poker tonight, then Kung Fu Theater later. I picked up some new Shaw Brothers movies... Awwwww Yeeeeaaah.

Okay...

After watching The Dark Knight a second time, I'll admit to not being as mad as I was yesterday. Parts of it really depend on how you interpret them. This is not to say that I still don't have serious issues with it but, it's not as bad as I originally thought... Sorta. With as much money as it has already made, and will make, you can bet the farm that they'll make a third. Let's hope that don't frag that one up. Warner Bros should hire me to be a creative consultant...

Poker is as poker does. I finally get a freakin' full house and freakin' Justin pulls a freakin'  four of a kind. Geez.

No idea how hot it's actually been lately but I can tell you it's at least 122 (as I stated before our thermometer only goes to 122).

The Watchmen movie has potential (you can see the preview at Apple). I still say it should have been an HBO mini-series; they'll be hard pressed to put everything into even a 3 hour movie (and most folks don't have that long of an attention span).

I watched The Bank Job the other night. Good movie. Jason Statham is awesome as usual. There's plenty of T&A so it's not one for the kiddies.

I also watched My Boy Jack. It's the story of Rudyard Kipling's son who joins the Royal Army and goes off to fight in WWI. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) plays Jack. Another good movie. They do drop a few "F" bombs so again, maybe not one for the kiddies.

That's it for tonight's edition.

Unbelievable...

That's how I describe Batman: The Dark Knight. Boy, they really hosed this one up. They were doing so well and then completely blew it at the end. Christopher Nolan should be dragged outside and beaten.

In other news; T got his name on the board with an A-5 of clubs tonight. That gives us all at least one now. Again, unbelievable.

Things here are the same. 122 degrees seems to be the norm. October can't get here fast enough.

"Tuesday's Gone..."

Picked up Justin, SGT Bell and SPC Murphy at the airport today. After we got all the gear downloaded we hit the chow hall. It's 122+ today (our thermometer only goes to 122, it's maxed out). So, we got back from chow, hit the showers and now I'm hanging out in my nice cool CHU waiting for 2000hrs (3 guesses why).

I updated the book website today with pictures from two of Tab's book signings. It was a painfully slow experience. We are just about ready to make the jump over to the new innnarweb provider. I'll let yall know when it happens. After that Skype should be working just fine.

Justin's cousin recently took a job in Houston working for the Astros in the marketing department. She just sent over a box full of Astro goodies. I now have a Biggio poster, a Berkman mini-poster and a postcard on my walls. Pretty cool.

Geez...

Ya know, when it comes to playing Poker with D, T and Jacob... Conventional wisdom just flies right out the door.

Not much else today. Laundry, PX, Chow. Sense a pattern? 97 days... 97 days.

Since it already Sunday...

Here in Iraq, I'd like to point out that I now have 98 days left. Time flies when you're having fun.

Well, not much here has changed... Except one. Our internet is on the fritz again and it appears we'll be looking for a new provider soon. So, until then please do NOT send me multiple mb files.

The C-130. A more uncomfortable airplane does not exist. I'd rather fly coach for 3 hours than spend 30 minutes on a C-130.

I just read a really good book. While I was at Ali I stopped by the MWR and found it in the "free book" section. It's called American Patriot: The Life and Wars of Colonel Bud Day by Robert Coram, fantastic book. I read the entire thing in just under 6 hours. I only put it down to eat or find a cooler place to sit. If you don't know about Bud Day, do a Google search; this post would stretch a mile if I tried to write anything about him here. This book will make you laugh and cry over the span of two pages. A truly amazing man.

That's all I got for you tonight. Tune in tomorrow, same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel.

Back in Kuwait

Ever had a double-edged sword shoved into your heart? That's what it feels like having to say "goodbye" again to my wife and boys.

I'm here at the apartment in Kuwait. The innarweb is jacked. Outlook doesn't work, Skype doesn't work and it took me 30 attempts to get logged into this blog (the things I do for my fans). Once/if we get it worked out I'll be able to have a little more reliable C2.

I'll tell yall all about the flight later...  My food just arrived.

Packing... Again

It still sucks. Two weeks just in NOT enough time to catch up with everything that you've missed for the past 5 months.

CW's Birthday was yesterday. He wanted to go to an Express game, so we did. It was nice to be back at the Dell Diamond but I just couldn't stay focused on the game (two guesses why). But we all had a good time, even though RR lost. CW got some new Express swag and was very happy about that.

I leave tomorow at 1420hrs. Killeen to DFW to DC to Kuwait City. I'll post when I get to the apartment.

Peace out, yo.

Jeremiah 6:16

ps. I finished the website for my sis and BL's church... check it out here: http://newhopebaptistchurchandschool.org
